Abbot Eusebios of Pantanassa Monastery writes a letter of support to His Eminence and a public statement protesting against those who have tried to undermine His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

LETTER TO HIS EMINENCE ARCHBISHOP MAKARIOS OF AUSTRALIA

19 June 2020

Your Eminence,

Yesterday, 18 June 2020, the anniversary of Your arrival to Australia, our monastic brotherhood knelt before the holy icons of our Lord and the Holy Theotokos. Reverently, humbly, with all the strength of our heart we glorified and thanked His All Holy name for the great gift that He bestowed upon the Orthodox Christians of Australia, that is, to send You as our new Archbishop and Spiritual Leader.

Your arrival at Sydney International airport, for all of us who lived those holy moments, was an experience that will remain deeply etched in our memory. We experienced a new Pentecost. Once You stepped on Australian soil, we felt the pulse of Your heart and You grasped our inner needs. You embraced us as a father and we with reverence kissed Your venerable hand. We received Your blessing. We felt the assurance that amongst us we had our God-sent new spiritual father and Leader, ‘in the body and place of Christ’.

Since then until the present, Your presence, has brought the beginning of a spiritual renewal to the people of God in the Antipodes. Now we feel secure, certainty, warmth, love, and affection close to You.

Our desire is to walk with You and through Your discerning spiritual guidance, for all of us to contribute and experience, with the grace of God, in the Church, the image of God, in each of us, to become in the likeness of God.

Within the short period of twelve months, as our good shepherd, You literally visited pastorally every part of the large Australian continent. You saw with your very own eyes the great potentials that exist. You confirmed Your flocks’ great thirst and hunger for systematic spiritual cultivation. Australia is no longer - from a Greek perspective - a migrant country. There still are many migrants, worthy representatives of this glorious brigade of Greek Orthodox in Australia, who from nothing created, with their enlightened and martyric leaders, Your predecessors, all that they created.

Now in the Antipodes we have first, second, third, fourth and fifth generation Orthodox Christians of Greek descent and all look to You with expectations. They are searching for answers to their spiritual concerns and problems created by the new social restructurings and galloping moral decline of society in general. In your serene presence we saw Moses, the answer to our prayers and desires. We saw You as the Lord’s apostle; as the Lord Himself. For this reason, unequivocally we exclaimed then and repeat now, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord’.

We pray wholeheartedly that with the Lord’s blessings Your spiritual aspirations, desires and efforts are fruitful for Your blessed Eparchy. May You be blessed with many years, Your Eminence!

With infinite respect and love, begging for Your blessings I kiss your right hand,

Archimandrite Eusebios Pantanassiotis

Abbot

PROTEST – INDIGNATION - DISSAPOINTMENT

The Monastery of Pantanassa is writing to express our indignation -disappointment about the untruths being written in the print and online media against the Holy Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and to the detriment of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios. We write with no personal or vested interest but out of concern for the truth and love for our Church.

From our experience and our relationship with His Eminence, we have found Him to be a hierarch, not only dedicated to his mission, hardworking and very capable in the administration of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. He is also a man with a loving kindness to everyone, honest, and above all a person with strong faith and reverence.

Despite being relatively new to Australia, He is well-informed and astute in evaluating people and matters concerning the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and the Greek Orthodox Community of Australia. To the point that we are certain, as the Greek saying goes, He can discern - ‘from where and why the fireplace emits smoke’.

We ask everyone who wishes to offer true support, and  to assist wholeheartedly in the work of cultivating the faithful of our Archdiocese, to throw in the dust bin their ink wells and pens, along with their so called ‘ideas and advice’

If they are people of prayer and feel that they have any standing before God -  the Righteous-Judge - it would be more beneficial and time well spent if they would concentrate on saying the occasional ‘Lord have mercy’ for all of us. We all need it. It is the only thing that we ask of you.

The Church, our Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Holy Synod, His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch, elected and sent us our new Archbishop. It is final. Let Him now carry out the mission assigned to Him by our Holy Orthodox Church in peace. Because ‘the harvest is plentiful, but the candidate workers’ ‘came, saw’ and abandoned us.

The Lord’s instruction is that the kingdom of heaven requires strength of will and no time wasting, ‘The kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force! This command applies to us and in a spirit of brotherhood, we believe to you too.
